· Singles Open — solo, for most recreational hybrid athletes.
· Singles Pro — solo with heavier loads (sled, wall ball, sandbag); for competitive athletes.
· Doubles — two athletes do one race; runs together, stations alternated.
· Relay — four athletes, each takes part of the race.
· Mixed Doubles / Mixed Relay — mixed teams.
Which category? Singles Open is the entry point. Pro takes 12+ months of focused preparation. Doubles is the most social format. Relay is the most accessible for first-timers.
Preparing for a 2026 Hyrox
Three variables count: endurance (8 km of running volume), strength (sled push, wall balls), and breath management (where most finishers lose time).
For the first two: 12–16 weeks of structured plan, mix of distance runs, intervals, sled work, and station circuits. For the third: read the station-by-station breathing guide and train nasal breathing at least 6 weeks before race day.

What's the difference between Hyrox and CrossFit?
Hyrox is standardised (same 8 stations + 8 runs at every event), CrossFit events vary per workout. Hyrox has a stronger endurance component (8 km of running) where CrossFit is shorter and more metcon-heavy.
Can I do this as a first-timer?
Yes, in Open or Relay category. Prep time: 12 weeks minimum from a reasonable base (can run 10K + basic strength).
